New unit standards for refrigeration transport industry

2017CompNews

Refrigeration transport industry employees can now earn credits specialising in temperature-controlled transport systems.

A suite of new unit standards have been developed for the New Zealand Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning to recognise skills needed to control the systems used in road vehicles and truck and shipping containers.

Competenz product portfolio manager Peter Ferguson says the new unit standards were developed in conjunction with the industry to bridge gaps in learning.

“Working together with industry experts to plug the gaps has resulted in a well-rounded programme of training that covers all disciplines within the industry.”

Competenz has also taken the opportunity to overhaul the commercial refrigeration unit standards, developing better structure and clarity.

Ferguson says Competenz will be making continuous improvements to ensure the qualifications remain relevant and keep learners up to date with changes in technology, methodology and refrigerants.

The below unit standards are available now and can be written into training plans.

New RAC unit standards

• 28958: Commission RAC systems for controlled temperature transport applications (Level 4)

• 28957: Unit Install commercial RAC equipment and systems in controlled temperature transport applications (Level 4)

• 28956: Maintain and service RAC systems and equipment in controlled temperature transport applications (Level 4)

• 28969: Commission commercial RAC systems rated above 50 kilowatts (Level 5)
